Caldwell High School Liberal Arts Academy Academic Scholarship Award

Background

The Board of Directors does hereby find that it has encouraged and supports the Board of Trustees of School District No. 132, Canyon County, State of Idaho and the Administrators of Caldwell High School to pursue and operate the Caldwell High School Liberal Arts Academy; and It is the desire of the Board of Directors to participate in the success of that Academy by the gift of a scholarship to a graduate of Caldwell High School who has attended the Academy in accordance with the provisions of this Resolution.

Criteria

  • Applicant must be a Graduating Senior of Caldwell High School.

  • Applicant must have successfully completed the coursework of the Caldwell High School Liberal Arts Academy in their Sophomore year

  • Applicant must have taken at least two AP classes in each of their Junior and Senior years, with Political Philosophy being one of the classes. Additional AP classes in Math and Science will be favorably considered.

  • The student must have received no less than a “B” grade in AP classes

  • Overall GPA must be 3.5 or above and be in Top 40 students at seventh semester

  • Must submit completed application

  • Applicant will be required to answer a 250 word essay on the following topic: “Two years have passed since your enrollment in the Liberal Arts Academy. It’s a distance that should provide you a clearer perspective of the class now than the one you held as an LAA student then. With that said, explain what has been the chief good to come from the class which has proven most valuable to your growth as a student who thinks, reads and writes critically. Construct a thoughtful essay of no more than 250 words, avoiding an approach that patronizes either of the teachers or glorifies the merits of the class.”

  • Three recommendations are required

  • Transcript and ACT/SAT scores must be provided

  • Student must provide information about the AP tests and scores
