Kathi Lamm Memorial Scholarship Fund
Background
Kathi was born April 18, 1951 to Dr. Gerald Bruce and Joan Galland Bruce in Ashland, Oregon. The family moved to Caldwell in 1955 where her father established a dentistry practice.
Kathi, her two younger sisters and brother, all attended Caldwell schools. Growing up in Caldwell she took voice,
piano, and swimming lessons, and was a highly sought-after babysitter. She attended Caldwell High School, graduating in 1969. During her time at Caldwell High School, she worked as an assistant to Veterinarian, Dr. Jerry Conger. She learned skills that would be of use in the classroom and in doctoring family pets. Kathi changed jobs to work at Caldwell Floral and found a life-long creative outlet in floral design and arrangement. Her high school
activities included Band, Color Guard, Choir, Drill Team, and National Honor Society.
Kathi attended the University of Idaho through her Sophomore year, pledging Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
completed her degree in Education at Boise State University and taught First Grade for three years in Parma.
interest in teaching was sparked from her time as a Teacher’s Aide in a “learning disability” classroom at
Buren Elementary in Caldwell. She transferred to Wilson Middle School and found her educational niche.
embraced the math and science curriculum and loved middle school students.
Kathi served as Caldwell Education Association Vice-President, and later President, from 1992 – 1995. She
served as representative to several National Education Association annual conventions and found a new role from
1997 to 2003 in the NEA Women’s Leadership Training Program. One of her most meaningful experiences was
serving as Chair of the IEA Human and Civil Rights Committee.
Throughout her life, Kathi maintained a wide variety of interests including pencil sketching and watercolor, floral
arranging, knitting, travel, music, sports car racing, and swimming. She was a member of the Caldwell swim
team and a certified lifeguard. She loved the ocean, especially the Oregon Coast, snorkeling, and “swimming with
dolphins” in the waters off Hawaii.
Kathi’s husband, Bob Lamm, was a 1964 graduate of Caldwell High School. They have one son, Greg, a Certified
Executive Chef, and a daughter, Stephanie (Ozuna) Archuleta, a middle school teacher.
This scholarship was established in 2012 as a memorial to Kathi Bruce Lamm who desired for it to be awarded to a
student going on to higher education in her fields of interest, math or science.
