Description
Gwen Reed was born in 1936 in Twin Falls, Idaho. She spent much of her life in various communities in California and attended the University of Southern California where she received both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in counseling and education. This began a long career of service to the children in the various communities that she lived in following her graduation. She taught for several years in a high school in southern California, then took a break to raise a family. She served briefly in the high school in Caldwell and for many years in the English Department at Jefferson Junior High School. During those years she had a chance to touch two generations of students as they wound their way through the required English classes at Jefferson Junior High School. Her last years were spent in dealing with the broader social issues through her work as a counselor in the elementary school system in Caldwell. She was truly every child’s friend and made a deep imprint on many through the years as they passed through the Caldwell school system. The scholarship recipient is chosen through a nomination process.
